Proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) has been refined since its introduction in the late 1970s. However, a substantial number of patients experience pouch failure, mainly caused by pouchitis and/or pouch-anal stenosis. Strictures occur in about one-sixth of cases, and they usually occur in the setting of pelvic sepsis, anastomotic tension, or ischemia [
1]. In particular, early pelvic sepsis mainly impairs the pouch function in the long term [
