Dr. Amid has kindly responded to our case series of recurrent interstitial herniation following primary subaponeurotic prosthetic placement accompanied by persistent inguinodynia. He has submitted a letter to the editors of Hernia and a published editorial [1]. In response to the former, we note that he provides only operative videos to support his insistence that laxity built into the preshaped dome prosthesis, commercially available today, remains the same as that provided in 1993 [2] when mesh size was increased to avoid recurrences. If laxity is the same, why use a dome? Thus, he denies that his discovery in 1996 [3] of a 20% contraction of polypropylene mesh, secondary to scarring which begins a month after implantation, led to the new product. …
