In societies across the world, individuals with mental health issues are largely managed in hospital settings, while offending individuals are managed through the criminal justice system. A small group of individuals interface these two systems and require containment in secure care facilities to manage risk and receive appropriate treatment and care. Assessing risk and providing treatment for these mentally disordered offenders is far more complex than providing care in a hospital or forensic facility alone, as this population affords some unique challenges. …
