Diagnostic accuracy concerning the depth of tumor invasion (T-stage) is crucial for therapeutic decision making and oncologic outcomes of patients with solid cancer. In gastric cancer treatment, decisions between endoscopic resection (T1m [mucosal] and selected T1sm [small submucosal good differentiated cancer]) and open or laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy (T1sm, T2, T3, selected T4) and between preoperative (neoadjuvant) and perioperative or postoperative adjuvant treatment strongly affect patients’ overall survival and quality-of-life [13]. …
