On 5 December 1914, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his 27-man-crew departed South Georgia aboard the ‘Endurance’ with the purpose to be the first expedition to cross the Antarctic continent from sea to sea. Unfortunately, ice packs rapidly entangled the ship which was eventually crushed. After enduring a brutal 10-month journey on the ice floe, Shackleton’s entire crew was rescued on 30 August 1916. …
