Smyth et al. have presented two examples of shunted hydrocephalic children who developed malignancies of the head and neck later in childhood and have used these cases to initiate a discussion about the risk of diagnostic radiation exposure in children with ventriculoperitoneal shunts. There are significant problems with the report but the discussion about risk of radiation exposure in children is important. …
