The use of inferior vena cava (IVC) filters in children has increased during the last few years [

3] and is associated with an increase in the number of children presenting with a deep venous thrombosis [
4] and the increased availability of retrievable filters. The indication for IVC filter placement in children is the same as that in adults: contraindication to anticoagulation, recurrent pulmonary emboli despite therapeutic anticoagulation, and prophylaxis in high-risk surgery [
5]. However, complications are associated with long-term placement of IVC filters, including strut penetration, caval occlusion, and filter migration and fracture [
6]. In addition, in children there is also the theoretical impact on the growth of the IVC. Therefore, an attempt is made to retrieve the filters in the majority of children. …
