I read with great interest the article by Smyrniotis et al. [1] about the management of echinococcal cysts located over the superoposterior aspect of the right lobe of the liver. They reported that the transabdominal approach produced superior results and fewer postoperative complications, and they recommended that the transabdominal approach be the first choice for treating liver hydatid cysts irrespective of their location and size. However, they compared two surgical approaches using different surgical techniques. Therefore, at the very least I believe that these conclusions should not be absolute. …
