At first sight the orthodox surgeon may wonder what place the word “vaccination” has in this journal. Yet vaccination (from the cow) has steadily kicked its way into modern surgical therapy, and it is not more out of place than in Roman law or NASDAQ quotations, as a fascinating meandering through etymology will reveal.
