Excerpt

Sonographic appearance of small amount of ascitic fluid between the radially oriented bowel loops in patients with tuberculous peritonitis is described as the ‘sliced bread’ or ‘club sandwich’ appearance (Figs. 1, 2 and Video 1) [1]. The interloop ascites is usually due to local exudation from the inflamed bowel loops. Other findings of tuberculous peritonitis include ascites (with or without loculation/septations/internal echoes), caseating or calcific lymphadenopathy, adherent bowel loops, bowel wall thickening, omental cake and mesenteric thickening [2, 3].
