Laparoscopic surgery has gained wide clinical acceptance in various surgical practices and has become the gold standard for cholecystectomy, Nissen fundoplication, and adrenal surgery. In 1994, the first laparoscopically assisted Billroth I gastrectomy was reported, and currently a laparoscopic distal gastrectomy is commonly performed for early stage gastric cancer [1]. The benefits of the laparoscopic approach include smaller surgical incisions, less intraoperative blood loss, faster recovery for normal bowel function, and shorter hospital stays than in the case of conventional open surgery [14]. …
