Professor Ulf I. Ulmsten died on March 4th, 2004, at the age of 66 years. Ulf was educated at the University of Lund, Sweden. Following 3 years in the Department of Pathology at the University of Lund, he became a Post-Doctorate Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Karolinksa Institute, Stockholm, in 1968. From 1971 to 1978 he was an Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Malmö General Hospital University of Lund. From 1980 to1985 he was Professor and Chairman at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Arhus University Denmark and then at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, before going to Uppsala University Hospital, Uppsala, where he was Professor and Chairman until his retirement in 2003. …
