Statins are powerful hypolipemic drugs with pleiotropic effects and have been shown to improve survival in the primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerosis in numerous large randomized clinical trials [

6]. Interestingly, in many of these trials, their beneficial clinical impact included noncoronary events. For example, statin therapy was consistently associated with decreased C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in recent human clinical trials, although the magnitude of this effect varied between drugs [
