Sir: We read with interest the recent work by Koroloff et al. [1] in Intensive Care Medicine. Eye care for the critically ill is an under researched area, and we welcome this important contribution. The aims of this study were to “evaluate the effectiveness in preventing corneal damage of two methods of eye care”. However, the choice of endpoints for the study do not make this aim possible, as only corneal ulceration was considered as an endpoint, and no assessment of less severe forms of corneal damage, such as superficial punctuate keratopathy, was made. …
