Intradural Incarceration of the Conus Medullaris Above a Site of Thoracolumbar Spinal Stenosis

Because the spinal cord is stabilized in the dura mater, it is rare to observe its deformation at sites with no compressive lesions on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [1]. We treated a patient in whom the lower end of the spinal cord was incarcerated at the site of spinal canal stenosis caused by the ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF), leading to flexion and tortuous deformation of the spinal cord. This is an extremely rare case as there have been no previous reports of such pathology. The aim of the present study was to report this case of “spinal cord incarceration” and discuss the mechanisms of its onset. …
