The idea of presenting the neuroradiological scene in Germany in the form of a structured anniversary publication on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary Conference of the German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR) was prompted by the desire to make the driving forces visible which move our discipline forward. Within the Executive Committee of the DGNR, each individual member is responsible for one particular special field that is of fundamental importance to the Society. In this special volume, under the heading ‘Neuroradiology in Germany’, these activities are briefly described. Also included are areas that, thanks to the tireless efforts of individual pioneers of neuroradiology, have emerged in recent decades. Particularly worthy of mention here is the development of the internationally renowned journal Clinical Neuroradiology by Professor L. Solymosi. The establishment of a reference centre for the imaging of tumours in children by Professor M. Warmuth-Metz merits highlighting, as does the demanding task of creating S3 medical guidelines, achieved by Professor J. Berkefeld. …
