Empirical and simulation analyses of biostatistical powers of discrimination of full-sib and half-sib pairs from unrelated pairs of individuals by STR markers, as conducted by von Wurmb-Schwark et al. [1], provide valuable information about use of likelihood ratio in such inferential investigations. However, some comments, relating to three topical issues, may enhance the practical utility of such analyses in several contexts broader than the ones indicated by the authors. …
