Fifteen years ago, the first ERAS consensus statement was published and described perioperative care for colorectal surgery, thereby emphasizing multidisciplinary work, evidence-based interventions and quality control with interactive audit [1]. This first success allowed the foundation of the ERAS® Society in 2010 which promoted a global surgical, anesthesia and nursing quality improvement program in perioperative medicine. ERAS is associated with significant improvement in clinical outcome and cost savings as shown by repeated economic analysis [2]. Over the years, an increasing number of ERAS® Society guidelines and recommendations (19, including updates) have been published and proven to be successful in many elective surgical specialties [3]. …
