Abstract

Intersphincteric perianal abscess can present with vague symptoms like low backache and as no obvious swelling/local signs. Per-rectal examination in all such cases and low threshold of getting MRI/TRUS (transrectal ultrasound) is a key to the accurate diagnosis. Intersphincteric abscess completely encircling the rectum is extremely rare and no such case has been published in the literature.
