Abstract

Active acne, especially inflammatory acne, and subsequent hypopigmentation or erythematous scarring causes significant distress, particularly in adolescents. The outcomes of mostly small trials, and expert opinion, highlights lasers and light devices as relatively fast, effective treatment options. Numerous device configurations exist, and any of the ablative options (e.g. the carbon dioxide laser), non-ablative or vascular lasers and light devices may be appropriate, according to the target lesions. Further investigation is needed, with larger trials.
