Manganiello et al. [
1] recently reported results of a first-of-its-kind study to capture the general burden of urologic disease in rural Haiti. The study highlighted that the burden of surgical disease in resource-poor settings has been difficult to quantify and that subspecialty data are particularly sparse. This paucity of data limits global health policymakers’ ability to focus more efforts on surgical therapeutics [
