Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery has been safely performed since the 1990s and results in weight loss that translates into a myriad of improvements in comorbid conditions [
1]. In 2019, a multicenter study looked at early and late complications after sleeve gastrectomy and RYGB and found that more than 90% of patients had an uneventful postoperative course up to 90 days after surgery [
2]. Therefore, when a patient does require readmission, this should be viewed as an anomaly. Here, we discuss a patient whose early complications alerted her care team to the potential harm that was to follow. …
