We read with interest the article by Tøttrup [1] that addresses a serious problem of postoperative bowel perforation. During an era when the mortality from pancreaticoduodenectomy is less than 3%, the mortality associated with enterocutaneous fistula remains at 10% to 30% owing to the often-present complications of sepsis, malnutrition, and electrolyte abnormalities [2]. The author demonstrated the role of Foley catheter enterostomy for creating a controlled fistula in such cases. …
