FDG imaging should be considered the preferred technique for accurate assessment of myocardial viability

The number of patients presenting with heart failure has been increasing exponentially. It was recently estimated that 4.9 million patients in the United States have chronic heart failure, with 550,000 new cases per year, resulting in 970,000 hospitalisations [1]. The underlying aetiology of heart failure is frequently coronary artery disease; Gheorghiade and Bonow estimated that more than 70% of patients with heart failure have underlying coronary artery disease [2]. …
