Some thyroid tumors are notoriously difficult to classify, which presents an important obstacle to correct patient management. Therefore, a symposium on controversial issues in thyroid pathology, with a focus on thyroid tumors, was organized in the context of the 21st meeting of the European Society for Pathology, in September 2007, in Istanbul. The symposium provided updates on current concepts of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PD carcinoma), follicular neoplasms, vascular neoplasms, and the use of ancillary techniques. …
