The Third American Cough Conference was held in New York City, June 10 and 11, 2011, and featured several speakers who enabled the audience to further their understanding of the normal physiology as well as the pathophysiology of cough. Dr. Peter Dicpinigaitis organized the conference and is the Guest Editor of this issue of LUNG. He assembled a group of internationally renowned faculty to speak on diverse topics focused on the pathophysiology of cough, clinical syndromes associated with cough, and treatment of cough. This issue of LUNG is dedicated to providing its readers with an opportunity to review “State of the Art” reports compiled by well-established experts in the field of cough and to review abstracts which were presented at the Conference. The abstracts published in this issue also reflect the broad range of topics addressed at the symposium and provide insight into future basic and clinical research. The Editorial Board of Lung is pleased to make Lung a venue in sharing new ideas and reviews of current concepts regarding cough and hope this issue will prove to be a valuable resource for its readers. …
