Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) are a major burden on healthcare systems. ARIs—including non-specific upper respiratory infections (the common cold), otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, acute bronchitis, influenza, and pneumonia—are the number-one symptomatic reason for seeking medical care.
