Among the accepted precepts of medical and surgical care that have stood the test of time are Primum non nocere and the mentor’s admonition that, “If you can’t find a structure you are trying to identify and preserve, you might have already cut it!” A more eloquent restatement of the mentor’s admonition would be: “The certain preservation of an anatomic structure requires careful dissection and exposition of the integrity of the structure during the conduct of an operative procedure.” …
