Our recent light and electron microscopic study investigating 41 cases of Kawasaki disease (KD) [
4] identified three distinct and apparently related pathologic processes that challenge long-held views [

2] concerning the history and fate of the arteriopathy and coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs): necrotizing arteritis (NA), subacute/chronic (SA/C) vasculitis, and luminal myofibroblastic proliferation (LMP). These findings have implications for the study of myofibroblasts, wound healing, vasculitis, myocarditis, and atherosclerosis, as well as significant clinical implications for KD. …
