Malignant tumors and the immune system are closely associated, and tumor-related inflammation is an important host-related factor that may affect the prognosis of patients with tumors.1 In recent years, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which originate from neutrophils, have received much attention for their role in tumor biology.2 In patients with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EHCC), preoperative cholangitis often occurs due to obstruction of the bile ducts, and some studies have reported that patients who develop preoperative cholangitis have a poor prognosis.3 Although inflammation is known to play an important role in tumor progression,4 the mechanism by which preoperative cholangitis worsens the prognosis of patients with EHCC remains unclear. …
