Excerpt

Dr. Romil Saxena has gathered a clutch of expert liver pathologists for the 2nd Edition of her liver pathology book. Acknowledging the limited repertoire of responses to damages, the existence of atypical histological and uncommon clinical presentations, as well as the presence of overlapping morphologies, the practical approach to reading and interpreting liver histology promoted by this textbook is based on the identification of one of seven predominant histopathological patterns; each of which is highlighted by a figurative description:
  • Portal cellular infiltrates (The blue portal tracts)
  • Ductular reaction (The bilious portal tract)
  • Lobular injury (The distressed lobule)
  • Steatosis (The bubbly liver)
  • Near-normal appearance (Calm but not quiet)
  • Fibrosis (The scarred liver)
  • Mass lesion (A pushy kind of guy)
