Abstract

Objectives

Multiple factors including genetic and environmental factors play a role in the pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The objective of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the association between Interleukin-1B-511 gene polymorphism and GERD susceptibility.

Methodology

Medline, CBM, VIP, CNKI, and Wanfang database were searched up to July 2014. Two reviewers independently assessed abstract of those searched articles. Finally, eight studies fulfilled our inclusion and exclusion criterion. Data about IL-1B-511 gene polymorphism and GERD condition were extracted and combined using the random-effect model.

Results

A total of 1199 GERD patients and 1428 controls were included in current meta-analysis. The combined results showed there were no association of IL-1B-511 gene polymorphism and GERD susceptibility (allele T vs C OR = 0.98, 95 % CI 0.79–1.23; genotype TT&TC vs CC OR = 0.91, 95 % CI 0.64–1.28).

Conclusion

This meta-analysis suggested that the genetic polymorphism of IL-1B-511 might not be associated with susceptibility of GERD.
