Anesthesia mumps after thyroidectomy

Bilateral parotid sialadenopathy is a rare complication of general anesthesia and is known as “anesthesia mumps.” We here report the first case of anesthesia mumps occurring after thyroidectomy. A 36-year-old female patient affected by a thyroid carcinoma was referred to our surgical department. The patient had normal thyroid function. Neck ultrasound showed multinodular goiter with a hypoechoic nodule of the left lobe. Fine-needle biopsy of the nodule identified a papillary carcinoma. No other disease was detected, in particular no abnormal findings regarding the parotid glands. …
