Acute fatty liver of pregnancy (AFLP) is an uncommon condition of late pregnancy characterized by nausea and abdominal pain, hepatic dysfunction, coagulopathy, and often acute kidney injury. While most treatment is supportive, plasma exchange and plasmapheresis may be therapeutic in severe cases. Here, we describe a case of AFLP complicated by significant coagulopathy and encephalopathy treated with plasma exchange, followed by a review of some recent publications addressing the efficacy of this therapy. …
