Carcinoma of the gallbladder is the most common malignancy of the biliary tract. It is a highly fatal disease with a poor prognosis [
1]. Intensive treatment, including surgery and effective chemotherapy, is therefore important for prolonging patient survival. Adenocarcinoma is the most common histological type of gallbladder carcinoma (80–95 %) [
1], while signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is extremely rare. In the digestive system, SRCC mostly occurs in the stomach (86.8 %). SRCC of the gallbladder is extremely rare (2.5 %) [

3]. As a result, the biological features and treatment strategies have not been well documented due to the small number of previous reports.
