Intense hot spots produce a variety of artifacts during reconstruction in SPECT images. The effect of hot spots in close vicinity to the LV is well described, but the effect of those which are located remotely from, but at the same level to, the LV is less familiar to nuclear medicine practitioners. In the present article, the effect is demonstrated pictorially in a case with a postinjection residual activity at the tip of the central venous (CV) catheter in situ and later, a brief mechanistic basis of the formation of this artifact during reconstruction is provided. …
