Since Clayman et al. first described the technique of laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy (LRNU), in 1991, for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) patients,
1 most of cohort studies have indicated better perioperative outcomes using the laparoscopic route, which is associated with less pain, lower blood loss volume, and shorter hospital stay duration.
2 In contrast, oncological outcomes of LRNU remain controversial, particularly for locally advanced high-risk UTUC, due to limitations of the heterogeneous patient background, small sample size, and short surveillance duration. Given the relatively rare incidence of UTUC, our specific aim is to investigate long-term oncological outcomes of LRNU and open radical nephroureterectomy (ORNU) in clinical and pathological T3N0M0 UTUC patients. …
