Grisel’s syndrome has been described as a rare, spontaneous subluxation of the atlanto-axial joint following peripharyngeal inflammation. It typically occurs in children and was first described in 1930 by Pierre Grisel in 2 patients with pharyngitis and torticollis and defined as “an atlanto-axial instability from inflammatory ligamentous laxity in the head and neck” [
