Quintuplet and sextuplet births are rare in Japan. The most common form of multiple births in humans is twins, because the number of embryo transfer is strictly controlled by the recommendation of the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSOG). Artificial insemination is a process wherein sperm is directly inserted into the reproductive tract of a female using a special device. The disadvantage of this procedure is the possibility of developing a dangerous condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and the risk of multiple pregnancies, as in the present case. …
