The present charter follows on the formulation of the Training Charter in Movement Disorders Surgery Added Competence by J.K. Krauss, G. Broggi, H.J. Reulen, T. Trojanowski and Y. Lazorthes [
5], the Training Charter in Pain Surgery Added Competence by Y. Lazorthes, B. Nuttin, T. Trojanowski, G. Broggi, D.E. Sakas, K.W. Lindsay and J.K. Krauss [
6], and the Training Charter in Epilepsy Surgery by D.E. Sakas, J.K. Krauss, J. Schramm, M. Scerrati, H. Reulen, M. Cunha E Sá, J. van Loon, B. Nuttin, A. Gonçalves-Ferreira, J. Regis and D. Van Roost [
12]. The Training Charter on Spasticity Neurosurgery Added Competence constitutes the fourth set of a program of ESSFN in collaboration with EANS and UEMS, aiming to raise the standards of clinical practice by guiding education and quality control concepts in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery. Furthermore, the present document continues a policy of EANS and UEMS in producing Charters of Added Competence in important fields of neurosurgical practice including endovascular neurointerventional therapy [
11] and radiosurgery [
