Abstract

Inferior vena cava thrombosis can lead to collateralization of the anterior internal vertebral veins through the ascending lumbar veins. Anterior internal vertebral veins can cause compression of the spinal cord with neurological consequences. Myelopathy symptom resolution is achieved by re-cannulation of the inferior vena cava. Awareness of this possibility may lead to early recognition. A prompt diagnosis leads to appropriate management.
