Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is recognised as providing the ‘gold standard’ assessment of fistula-in-ano anatomy, knowledge which is fundamental to a successful clinical outcome [1]. However, interpretation of two-dimensional (2D) monotone magnetic resonance images can prove difficult for the operating surgeon, who is more used to visualising anatomical structures in three dimensions. We describe an imaging technique enabling three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of complex fistula-in-ano disease. …
