While the beneficial effects of hypertension in treating cerebral vasospasm and the artificial elevation of cerebral perfusion pressure are controversial, this paper provides an excellent basic primer on cardiovascular physiology. It is well for all of us to be reminded of the variables, which may be therapeutically manipulated, as we institute various targeted therapies for these disorders. Returning to the basics is always worthwhile, as we strive to provide the best available neurological critical care for our patients. …
