The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) has become a cornerstone in the prevention of sudden cardiac death in patients with ischaemic and non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy, as well as in survivors of idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias and carriers of a genetic arrhythmia syndrome. Current guidelines recommend ICD implantation in patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction ≤35%, despite optimal medical treatment for 3 months, and at least 40 days after myocardial infarction or revascularisation [1]. …
