Sir: I read the report on validating the Intensive Care Nursing Scoring System (ICNSS) by Pyykko et al. [1] with a great deal of interest. Certainly a tool that could be used to quantify nursing workload would contribute greatly to the evaluation of clinical outcomes as well as measures designed to improve clinical outcomes. Assigning a measurable value to nursing workload is complicated by the diverse skills and tasks required by the nurse. The intensive care unit (ICU) nurse must be adept at multitasking. …
