Time flies. Harvey Cox came to national attention in 1965 as the 36-year-old author of an acclaimed book, The Secular City. He was one of the Young Turks, a critic of established religion, sometimes (unfairly in my view) associated with the briefly fashionable Death of God theologians including William Hamilton, Thomas Altizer, and Richard Rubenstein. One reviewer referred to the young Cox as Harvey the Fox, biting the hand that feeds him. …
