To the Editor—Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter by Professor Sayfan. We were in fact citing the two randomized studies in the literature before our own randomized study was published in Diseases of the Colon & Rectum. Professor Sayfan’s study, while describing the potential for this technique, was not in fact randomized. Even although Professor Sayfan indicates in his letter that they compared their technique randomly and prospectively, they in fact alternately allocated patients to either study group or the control group. This is not randomization. …
