We express our deep appreciation for your letter. We agree with you that intraoperative sonography is quite helpful in localizing and differentiating lesions from surrounding organs. However, this technique currently is not sufficient for determining a histologic diagnosis. Therefore, an intraoperative histologic diagnosis is mandatory for deciding on a surgical procedure, namely a wedge resection for a benign lesion and a lobectomy for a malignant nodule. Operative procedures were decided by frozen section examination, and not without histologic results. …
