In their paper entitled Surgical Resident Experience in Breast Disease—A National Study, Cil et al. [1] assess the exposure of Canadian surgical residents to breast diseases. However, the underlying issues certainly cross disciplines, specialties, and continents, highlighting its universal nature. Postgraduate medical education is undergoing significant change worldwide, driven by the public’s demand for accountability. Not only do graduates need to demonstrate competence but training programs must also demonstrate that they are carefully measuring competence before allowing someone to graduate and enter independent practice. …
