The S-ECCO IBD Masterclass, an initiative of the Surgeons of ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization), S-ECCO, is an IBD surgeons’ meeting within the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization’s annual Congress and was held this year in Barcelona, Spain, on February 19, 2015. The S-ECCO IBD Masterclass is an annual scientific forum for professional discussion on the surgical aspects of the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. This unique meeting is devoted to IBD surgery and is attracting an increasing number of surgeons from around the globe each year. Nearly 200 surgeons from 28 countries registered for the 4th Masterclass this year, which has focused this time on contemporary topics in surgery of inflammatory bowel diseases. Scientific sessions included discussions on preoperative optimization, different aspects and debates, surgical techniques for the treatment of IBD, update on trials dealing with surgery of IBD, and surgery for pediatric patients with IBD. Each topic has been discussed from several different points of view, which has led to detailed and stimulating discussions. Large numbers of participants have expressed their great satisfaction from the high level of scientific content of this meeting and from the interchange of knowledge and ideas between surgeons taking care of IBD patients. …
